Not sure how to figure out your partner's ring size? We're are here to help

1. Use Our Free Simon Wright Jewellery Ring Size Chart

The most common question we’re asked is "how to secretly measure ring size?". Taking measurements without arousing suspicion used to involve cutting strips of paper or lengths of string to determine the inside circumference of a ring, and could be quite fiddly. Proposal ring size is of course important, but in the grander scheme of things is actually the least difficult issue to solve. With that in mind, we have taken steps to help you figure out how to get your partner’s ring size with our free ring size chart. This easy-to-use guide will help you get as close as possible to the correct UK size of any ring.

Using our handy chart, the easiest solution for figuring out a proposal ring size lies in your significant other’s jewellery box. Chances are, your partner already owns some rings. The best way to get a ring size secretly is to take a note of which ring they wear on their third finger, and when you have the opportunity, borrow it from the jewellery box. Simply print out our chart and follow the easy instruction

2. Phone a friend

If your partner has a friend who is recently engaged, you can ask that friend to encourage your partner try on their engagement ring. They can then let you know what size their ring is and whether it was too large, to small, or just right for your partner.

It can be a good idea to double-check the size they tell you against our ring size chart, just to make sure it sounds right for your partner.

3. Compare With Your Own Finger

If you really aren’t sure you have the correct proposal ring size, compare your finger size to your partner’s. You can measure the finger that’s closest in size to her ring finger and check it against our ring size chart to get a rough estimate. Or ask a similar-sized friend or relative to help you out.

4. Bigger Is better

Getting a proposal ring size exactly right is very difficult. Don’t worry though! Nearly all rings can be resized if they’re not quite perfect at the time. So, if there’s no feasible way you can find out your partner’s ring size secretly, opt for a slightly larger ring than you think you need, and bring it in to be resized after you have proposed.

Why larger? This has two advantages. First, you can still put it on your partner’s finger at the time you propose, without giving them a complex about the size of their fingers! Second, it’s easier to resize a ring downwards, than it is to increase the size.
