The Maker

Simon Wright

An eye for detail, a strong work ethic, honesty, and a deep passion for craftsmanship are qualities that distinguish Simon Wright from many of his contemporaries in the luxury jewellery industry. His unwavering commitment to excellence and precision is evident in every piece he creates, reflecting not only his technical skill but also his artistic sensibility.

Simon’s journey into the world of jewellery and metalsmithing began during his time at Monash University in Melbourne, where he initially set out to study Fine Art. It was here that he discovered his love for working with metal and was introduced to jewellery as an art form. Under the mentorship of renowned Australian jewellers and artists such as Mark Edgoose, Rhys James, and Miyuki Nakahara, he gained a deep appreciation for design, craftsmanship, and the intricate relationship between form and function. Their influence played a pivotal role in shaping his approach to jewellery, instilling in him a foundation of creativity, precision, and respect for materials.

This early passion led him to undertake a jewellery-making apprenticeship, marking the beginning of what would become a career spanning more than three decades. Over the years, Simon has refined his technical expertise through hands-on experience in both Australia and the UK, working with a diverse range of clients and honing his ability to bring their visions to life. His deep understanding of his craft, combined with a genuine connection to those he designs for, ensures that every piece he creates is both meaningful and exquisitely made.

Beyond his work at the bench, Simon has also played an active role in the jewellery industry, contributing to the prestigious Goldsmiths’ Craftsmanship & Design Awards. In past years, he has been a member of the judging panel for the CAD/CAM design category, recognising and supporting innovation within the field. Simon’s former apprentices have gone on to build successful careers in the industry, and he continues to support the next generation, occasionally offering work experience for students looking for a taste of jewellery making.
