4 Uncommon Engagement Ring Styles To Make Your Partner Feel One-Of-A-Kind

While a classic solitaire ring will always have a well-deserved place, if your partner has a distinctive style and isn’t so much of a traditional type, one way of making them feel truly special is to pop the question with an uncommon engagement ring.

There are alternatives to the diamond engagement ring out there, but knowing how to find a unique engagement ring can be a little easier said than done.

However, here at Simon Wright, we like to think we know a thing or two about jewellery, so allow us to guide you through some unusual engagement ring styles to make your partner feel one-of-a-kind.

What Are Uncommon Engagement Rings?

Of course, thinking that something is unusual or unique is very much in the eye of the beholder. But we’re going to take a look at some settings, stones, bands and shapes that are perhaps not the first thing that spring to mind when you’re thinking about buying an engagement ring.

4 Unusual Engagement Ring Styles

1. Vintage Inspired Engagement Rings

If you have a significant other whose personal style is less trend hopper and more timeless beauty, finding inspiration in the past could be the way forward, in a manner of speaking.

Whether you find the perfect ring in an antique shop or you opt for a bespoke vintage reproduction ring, taking your cue from a decade that your fiance-to-be has a love of would be a winning move.

The setting and style of your ring could invoke the natural aesthetic of Art Nouveau or the straight lines of Art Deco. Or you could even embrace flower power with a 1970s style floral shaped ring setting.

2. Engagement Rings With Non-Traditional Stones

A diamond engagement ring is an enduring classic - and for a very good reason. After all, who doesn’t love a good sparkler! But if you’d like a stone that is a little less traditional, but are worried you need to obey some kind of unwritten law that says you must choose diamonds, we’re here to rip up the rule book.

If you’re wondering how to find a unique engagement ring that will suit your partner’s style, there are plenty of other stones to choose from.

For example, sapphires look stunning in an engagement ring and, did you know, they don’t just come in blue? Sapphires naturally come in a palette of colours, including shades of pink, yellow and green.

Aquamarine engagement rings are also an option and if you know this gorgeous shade of bluey-green is a favourite of your loved one, there’s absolutely no reason why you couldn’t go down the uncommon engagement ring path and incorporate it into your design.

3. Unusual Engagement Ring Colours

As with number 2 on our unique engagement rings list, choosing a clear stone is not your only option. Coloured stone engagement rings will not only stand out on your partner’s finger, they’re sure to elicit plenty of “oohs and ahhs” too!

Emerald engagement rings fit nicely into the unusual engagement ring category as do tourmaline and even rubies. A ruby engagement ring is definitely not an obvious choice and although it might be one of the more valuable gems, it’s sure to delight.

And if you do have your heart set on a diamond engagement ring but you’d like something a little different, don’t despair because diamonds actually come in different hues, ranging from champagne to vibrant pink.

4. Uncommon Engagement Ring Shapes

From the setting to the band to the shape of the stone, there are a number of ways to find a unique engagement ring design. Modern engagement rings can be sleek with no stones at all or bold and statement-making.

You might not want the band to meet, instead preferring a crossover or bypass ring style.

Perhaps your partner would prefer something ethereal and romantic, or they’d be happier with a marquise cut stone that announces its presence in no uncertain terms.

Or you could even opt for a pearl as an unusual engagement ring. The combination of the round pearl and the unexpected choice of gemstone will be sure to delight your soon-to-be fiance if they’re a pearl kinda girl.

How To Find A Unique Engagement Ring

There are a couple of ways to find a unique engagement ring. Opting for a vintage ring is one - although this might not guarantee your engagement ring is 100% unique as more of the same ring will likely exist somewhere in the world.

As we see it, there are only two ways to ensure that you’re proposing to your loved one with a truly uncommon engagement ring.

Either have a piece of vintage jewellery remodelled - perhaps a family heirloom that isn’t quite to your partner’s taste, but still very much loved.

Or create a bespoke and uniquely unusual engagement ring from scratch. A bespoke engagement ring that has been designed with your fiance in mind is truly a way to express your love and to show them how much you care.

After all, doesn’t a once in a lifetime moment deserve a once in a lifetime ring?
